Location 5 - Chantulo

On our way back to the warehouse we checked locations all the way from Makkakola through Monkey Bay with no success until we got to a very low flood plain near the village of Chantulo. Here our very first net produced an exquisite male. This fish looks a lot like the Location 1 (Salima) fish, however, the body is very red. Could this attractive fish be N.kirki?

After collecting 6 trio's we decided to let peace and tranquility return to the Dambo's of Malawi. Although it was a very expensive trip - about $5000 US, I feel it was well worth it and I would like to thank Stuart Grant for his help and encouragement. Without Stuart none of this would have been possible.

I have had another 2 successful collecting trips this year. The first one, before Malawi, was to the Pongola area of northern Natal where we collected N.orthonotus blue. The second trip was immediately after our return from Malawi and was to the Kruger National Park where we collected N.orthonotus red and N.rachovii Black.
